UFC 114 (post-fight analysis)

I really didn't get to watch the preliminary undercards, but I've heard that Luiz Banha Cane lost to France Cyrille Diabaté. For you giblets not in the know, Cane I think was the person that sent Sokodjou packing from the UFC. He was stupid enough to leave it to the judges' scorecards.

I also didn't get to watch Amir Sadollah vs. Dong Hyun "Stun Gun" Kim and the Efrain Escudero vs. Dan Lauzon matches. Boooo!

The only preliminary undercard that I got to view was the one shown on PPV, the Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard VS Waylon Lowe match. Greg Jackson's camp really does wonders for any fighter, especially for Melvin. I realized with Melvin that any dangerous striker with decent take-down defense would kill anyone. Wrestling with all the Greg Jackson wrestlers sure paid dividends for Guillard. And I liked him calling out Li'l Heathen after the fight. WAR GUILLARD!

Now the first main card fight was really an upset. I knew Hathaway was a sleeper, but was foolish enough not to bet on him. His long reach and height was the difference. Diego "The Nightmare" Sanchez wasn't fast enough to get inside Hathaway's pocket, therefore was constantly peppered with counters. Poor Diego. His skills are declining I believe while young up-and-comers like Hathaway are increasing their skills exponentially.

Second stop was the Todd Duffee-Mike Russow fight. Now if there was such a thing as a freak KO, this was it. First time that I've seen anything like it. Even color-commentator Joe Rogan said that it's the strangest KO that he has seen in over a thousand fights. Todd was peppering Mike Russow from the 1st 'till the 3rd round, 'till he got caught. Mike Russow gave a right hook, or overhand, which hit Duffee's temple, sending him to the canvass. He was even complaining to the ref that he wasn't out, when he was! His arms stiffened. I saw it. Time to end it.

3rd main card fight of the night was the Dan Miller (Miller Time!) and Michael Bisping bout. I was pulling for Miller, and he technically looked good standing up with Bisping. Now Miller has a better ground game than Bisping. Problem was that he couldn't take Bisping down. Another mistake was that he kept on circling towards Bisping's power right, so he ate a lot of it, costing him some points (or rather, earning Bisping some points) from the judges. In the end, Bisping won the UD.

The co-main event was also quite entertaining. Jason Brilz just stepped in on 4 week's notice as a late replacement for Forrest Griffin against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Minotauro's younger twin bro). This fight was the first time that I saw someone doin' the crucifix on another fighter (you only get to see this shit in WWE or something). Rogerio crucifixed Brilz and was hammer-fisting his face.In all fairness, Brilz did a good job and seemed to put the pressure on Rogerio and seemed to win it all. But Nogueira's name won him the fight via split-decision. It's very controversial, especially if you look at fightmetric.com. All the shots landed, plus octagon control stats are there.

Now for the main event, it was the opposite of what Shad and Page said they would do to each other. Rampage seemed flat-footed, while Rashad was just cat-quick. I believe that due to all the explosiveness and plyometric training that Rashad was doing, he maybe just as fast as Lyoto Machida, or even faster! Stupid Rampage, didn't finish him off when he had the chance in the 3rd round, which had me screaming hysterically. Shad was clearly on queer street, but Rampage didn't capitalize and instead, just jumped around like a fool. I thought the Rampage pick was a lock. Now I only got the Nogueira pick right! What a douche...
